Why It’s Curated: This Puch 230GE for sale was originally a Swiss Government / Military vehicle that was imported to Florida in October 2022 (now in Virginia). This is a highly original vehicle in its fabulous green exterior and tan interior with cloth checkered seats that are simply period correct perfect. This version has a 2.3L inline 4 cylinder, 4-speed manual, 2 differential locks, a trailer hitch with an air brake system, and has service records dating back decades to 1984. We are big fans of early G-Wagens and would love to roll in this one. Check out the new off road spec tires in the gallery that improved its looks in our humble opinion from the silver steelies.
For those that don’t know why some G-Wagens were branded as Puch and others Mercedes, they were in fact built in the same factory. However, in the agreement between Daimler-Benz AG and Steyr-Daimler-Puch it stipulated that G-Wagens sold in Austria, Switzerland, Yugoslavia and other select countries were called Puch and elsewhere as Mercedes-Benz. Perhaps surprisingly, the reason that they did this was due to Puch’s reputation for its off road vehicles, the Haflinger and Pinzgauer, and having the Puch name in these countries would be considered beneficial over the Mercedes-Benz brand.
